Underground Rivers contains the first chapter of my second novel. The text is in an early draft, but the essential features will not change. The working title of my forthcoming book is Living in the Past. I’ve had some encouraging feedback on the chapter, mostly urging me to finish so that people can discover the ending! For me there’s no better encouragement, as I highly value such a connection with readers. It occurs to me that there may be an ‘underground’ theme in the titles I come up with, as I named our magazine in Newcastle Under the Bridge! It would be nice to emerge into the light, without being obsessed by too many notes from the underground, as it were. I co-run the Luton Writers’ Group and as a group we produced a story collection last year to celebrate the talent of these writers, as well as 50 years of Luton Central Library. There are some really good stories in the book, a real coffee shop selection, including the creepiest ghost story about a library that I have ever read. Luton Writers’ Group has been inspirational and instructional to my own work, with meetings taking place every month, although allowing for a summer holiday. |
